Join the Idaho Teen Reading Challenge!

Pick up a reading journal at Coeur d'Alene Library (in the Teen Zone) or print ​our informational bookmark.

The bookmark has the basic instructions and QR codes that will help you find books from one of the 10 categories while you're in the library. 

You can also track your progress for free through StoryGraph!

However you choose to track your progress, just be sure to show CDA Library staff how far you've gotten occasionally, so you can win a free prize book for every 4 books you read, and you can be entered into a grand prize drawing when you've read all 8 books (between Oct 1, 2024 and April 30, 2025).

Here's the 10 categories and their booklist links (if available):

​1) New Genre - try a new genre... break out of your comfort zone and try a genre you don't normally read

2) Sports Book - a book about or featuring a sport... this link will take you to a booklist on our catalog with some suggestions from our teen (aka young adult/YA) collection

3) Memoir/Biography - a book by or about a real person... this link will take you to a special search result page with some suggestions from our YA collection

4) Same Book as a Friend - read the same book as a friend... buddy reads for the win!

5) Setting You Want to Visit - a book set somewhere you want to visit... try using the search formula "location name + YA" to quickly find some options in our catalog

6) Mystery - a book with a mystery...  this link will take you to a booklist on our catalog with some suggestions from our teen (aka young adult) collection

7) 1-Star Review - a book with a 1-star review... this could take some research on sites like Storygraph, Goodreads, or Amazon, or you could just pick a book that someone you know didn't like

8) Look to the Future - a book that makes you think about the future... this is open-ended; it could be sci-fi or speculative fiction or non-fiction about cutting-edge tech, like AI

9) Help Yourself - a book that helps you learn something new... about yourself or the world around you

10) Free Choice - read whatever you want!

Please keep in mind that the prizes (as well as many of the book suggestions) mentioned here are only available at Coeur d'Alene Public Library.
